Growing from Strength to Strength Through Faith & Sacrifice
Due to the working of a righteous generation who believed in a living God, the church which started functioning in a small earthen building has gone from strength to strength. The congregation and the presbyters in charge worked together for this development.
In 1890, due to the effort of the members of the church, an area of one acre landβwhich houses the church and the school todayβwas purchased and a small church building was also constructed. In 1904, Kunjoommen Tharian gifted 80 cents of land to Punnacadu Anglican Church for the use as cemetery.
During the time of Mr. N.T. Thomas, with the whole-hearted effort of the members of the church, the Chamakala property was purchased and a Parsonage was built. This helped in the upgrading of the church to the status of a parish.
Rev. K.J. Chacko was appointed as the first Vicar after the church was upgraded to a Parish in 1948. In 1952β56, when Rev. T.M. Thomas was the Vicar, the church building was expanded and completed during the time of Rev. K. George.
"A blessed legacy founded on prayer, sustained by sacrificial giving, and dedicated to the holistic transformation of generations."
Genesis & Sacrificial Heritage of Punnakkadu
From the pioneering CMS mission in 1816 to the founding of our worshipping community in 1860.
Early Mission & Decision to Build
Church Missionary Society (CMS) initiated the nucleus of its activities in Central Travancore in the year 1816. In the year 1854, the region around Punnacadu had its first Anglican church established at Kuzhikkala.
In those days, for a family to travel from Punnacadu to Kuzhikkala was a very difficult proposition. For this reason, the believers prayerfully took a decision to start a church at Punnacadu.
Cherished Gift of 1860 & Founding Fathers
However, what happened then is something that should always be cherished in the history of Punnacadu. One of our forefathers, Pillaparambil Koshy, gifted 30 cents of land to C.M.S missionaries for the building of a house of worship.
Thus, in 1860, the first building for worship was built to the eastern side of the present-day church.
This noble act was fully supported and given the required leadership by the founding fathers.
