Due to the working of a righteous generation who believed in a living God, the church which started functioning in a small earthen building has gone from strength to strength. The congregation and the presbyters in charge worked together for this development. In 1890 due to the effort of the members of the church an area of one acre land, which houses the church and the school today, was purchased and a small church building was also constructed. In 1904 Kunjoommen Tharian gifted 80 cents of land to Punnacadu Anglican church for the use as cemetery. During the time of Mr. N.T. Thomas with the whole hearted effort of the members of the church, Chamakala property was purchased and a Parsonage was built. This helped in the upgrading ofthe church to the status of a parish. Rev. K.J. Chacko was appointed as the first Vicar after the church was upgraded to a Parish in 1948. In 1952-56 when Rev T.M.Thomas was the Vicar the church building was expanded and completed during the time of Rev. K George.
History
Church Missionary Society (CMS) initiated the nucleus of its activities in Central Travancore in the year 1816. In the year 1854 the region around Punnacadu had itsfirst Anglican church established at Kuzhikkala. In those days for a family to travel from Punnacadu to Kuzhikkala was a very difficult proposition. For this reason the believers prayerfully took a decision to start a church at Punnacadu. But where would you meet together for worship? Normal practice in those days was for the missionaries to buy land at the said location and provide it to the local believers for worship and stay.
However what happened then is something that should always be cherished in the history of the Punnacadu. One of our forefathers Pillaparambil Koshy gifted 30 cents of land to C.M.S missionaries for the building of a house of worship. Thus in 1860the first building for worship was built to the eastern side of the present day church. This act which was fully supported and given the required leadership by Melaekootu Pothen, Pillaparambil Koshy, Punnurethuvadku Itty, Alunilkunathil Tharian,Malayil Kunjoommen, Melathethil Yohanan, Kanjikal Koshy, Poovakunil Kurien. As a result of this Punnacadu region started its advancement spiritually, socially and culturally.
